DMCC Company Name Suffix Change Deadline Extended to 31 December 2026

DMCC Update

DMCC Extends Company Name Suffix Change Deadline to 31 December 2026

DMCC has extended the deadline for eligible member companies to update their company name suffix from 30 June 2026 to 31 December 2026. The extension gives existing businesses additional time to complete the required amendment and update their legal company name in accordance with the revised DMCC naming structure.

The requirement applies to companies incorporated with DMCC before 2 January 2025. Under the updated regulations, companies registered in the free zone now use the suffix “FZCO”, while branch establishments use “FZ Branch”. Businesses that still operate under the “DMCC” or “DMCC Branch” suffix should complete the amendment before the revised deadline.

What Is Changing?

The update relates only to the legal suffix at the end of a company’s registered name. For example, a company currently registered as ABC Trading DMCC will be updated to ABC Trading FZCO, while ABC Trading DMCC Branch will become ABC Trading FZ Branch. Companies incorporated on or after 2 January 2025 already use the new suffixes, so this requirement applies only to existing entities.

The amendment is administrative in nature and does not affect the legal identity of the company. Shareholders, directors, business activities, trade licence details, contractual obligations, and company registration remain unchanged. Once the application is approved, DMCC updates the company’s legal name in its register and issues an updated electronic licence together with a Certificate of Company Name Suffix Change.

How to Complete the Suffix Change

The application is submitted through the DMCC Member Portal under Company Services – Company Name Suffix Change. Companies must hold an active trade licence before submitting the request. The portal requires basic contact details before the application is processed, after which DMCC reviews the request and issues the updated electronic documents.

Important

Existing DMCC companies still have time to complete the company name suffix change before 31 December 2026. Applications are submitted through the DMCC Member Portal, and the service remains free of charge during the extended period.

Why Companies Should Complete the Update

Although the deadline has been extended, businesses should not wait until the final weeks of December 2026. The company’s legal name appears across many corporate records, and completing the amendment early allows sufficient time to update those records before they are required for banking, licensing, taxation, or commercial transactions.

After approval, companies should review documents and systems where the legal company name appears, including:

  • Trade licence records
  • Bank accounts
  • VAT registrations
  • Corporate Tax registrations
  • Contracts
  • Invoices
  • Websites
  • Email signatures
  • Supplier registrations
  • Insurance policies
  • Other corporate documents

Keeping these records consistent helps prevent discrepancies when dealing with government authorities, financial institutions, customers, and business partners. For companies operating in the education or training sector, it is also important to review how the name change appears in VAT-related records and understand the UAE rules on VAT on educational services before updating tax documents.
